Puppets in the Classroom - Why Primary School Teachers use Puppets
I often "bring the show" on the road and attend several educational events at Teachers Training Centres mainly across Ireland where I showcase our extensive range of puppets. It is always inspiring to chat with primary school teachers about their creative use of puppets in the classroom. I discovered that puppets are far more than toys – they’re magical and powerful resources that transform lessons into playful adventures.
Here are some highlights from my conversations:
Interactive Learning with Hand Puppets: colourful hand puppets pair perfectly with a book, turning lessons into interactive storytelling sessions.
Sparking Imagination with Finger Puppet Story Sets: the detailed and complete sets (book and puppets) help children retell classic tales, invent new ones, and use their endless creativity.
Creative Expression with Monster Puppets is a popular one!: our quirky monster puppets encourage even the shyest students to express themselves, gain confidence and even explore their emotions.
Dynamic Storytelling with Extra Large Puppets: these are the super large hand puppets that completely captivate everyone's attention...their impressive size brings group storytelling to life and encourage collaborative play.
What I got from the lovely chats with teachers is that once you start using puppets and witness the incredible reactions from the children, you'll find yourself constantly adding new puppets to your creative toolkit. Puppets have a neutral, friendly, and non-threatening nature. Children feel relaxed around them and tend to engage with learning more pro-actively. Teachers have found that puppets really become part of classroom dynamics.
