How Therapists Use Puppets for Communication & Emotional Expression

Puppets can become much more than toys in a therapy room. Many therapists and other professionals use them as gentle tools to encourage communication, emotional expression and connection, particularly when children find it difficult to put their thoughts and feelings into words.

Every child communicates differently. For some, a puppet can spark conversation, support storytelling or create enough distance to explore worries, relationships and emotions in a safe and playful way. For others, puppets simply bring fun, curiosity and engagement to the therapeutic process.
